A MUNICIPAL UTILITY Turns Workflow Process ‘Green’ With Venice Consulting Group

Microsoft SharePoint implementation reduces manual approval processes, drastically eliminating use of paper documents

CULVER CITY, CA. March 5, 2011 – Venice Consulting Group (VCG), a leading interactive design and application development firm, today announced that a Municipal Utility has completed the transition to a new workflow for their main approval processes. The workflow, required for budget approvals of new projects, is now fully automated on the Microsoft SharePoint platform. The new workflow removes the prior need for manual printing and storage of documents, helping them achieve significant ‘green’ targets of reducing paper waste.
While Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) is a powerful workflow and document management system in its own right, Venice Consulting Group created a custom application on top of the out-of-the-box functionality to meet the specific needs of the client. The system is also constructed to allow maximum flexibility for scale and growth as the Metropolitan’s needs evolve.

The new SharePoint system provides a central repository for all documents, including full tracking mechanisms so coordinators and program managers can track where any particular document is in the process. Workflows can be initiated with several iterations of review and approvals all done electronically, removing the need to pass paper documents back and forth.
