The Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA), founded in 1880, is a voluntary professional association of roughly 30,000 members that interact and collaborate in various ways every day. Desiring to take this collaboration to the next level, OSBA worked with VCG to create the ultimate web portal usingMicrosoft SharePoint to become an indispensible daily resource for its members and the public in general.
The new portal features personalization services to deliver real time information that is most pertinent to various role types in their user base including news feeds, Casemaker legal research tools, publications, litigation and legislative tools, informative blogs, podcasts and more. In addition, personal profiles allow each member to not only create their own personal work space but collborate with team mates on documents, discussions and legal precedents in real time from different offices. Members are also able to use the site to pay dues, keep up-to-date and register to Legal Education courses, committee meetings and local events that directly pertain to their area of expertise. Non-members can use the site to find specific lawyers, research legal news stories moments after they are released and read OSBA-related publications previously only available in print.
The foundation of the new web site was built upon Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 Enterprise Content Management solutions. MOSS 2007 is an enterprise framework that is part of the 2007 Microsoft Office system. Organizations use MOSS to facilitate collaboration, provide content management functionality, implement business processes, and supply access to information that is essential to organizational goals and processes. The site was coded using Microsoft .NET C# business logic code and linked to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 with an eCommerce solution for transaction management.
With the new OhioBar.org, OSBA members are able to find what they are looking for, collaborate as never before and truly be an indispensible tool each and every day.
